Buffalo Hummus

September 21, 2018

Before this I have never attempted to make hummus – it is not something I usually eat, but my boyfriend has told me in the past he likes it and since it was football Sunday and I wanted to whip up a quick snack I decided to give it a shot!  Also, before making this I didn’t even know that buffalo hummus was a thing, but when I saw that it was I thought it sounded really good! I was afraid of it being too spicy, so I didn’t use too much buffalo, just enough to give it a little kick!

Since I never made this before I looked around to see what is typically added and then put in what I thought would work.

FYI I never heard of tahini before – maybe you have, but I had no idea what it was or where to find it – for those of you that are with me I found it in the aisle with natural/organic products (after I spent 20 minutes looking for it and finally decided to ask someone!)  Once I looked there I found it in seconds.

This hummus took probably less than ten minutes to make – no cooking involved!  I served the hummus with pita crackers and my boyfriend munched on it all day while watching the games and said he loved it!  I will definitely make this again – it was so easy!

buffalo hummus recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups of chickpeas
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup tahini – I did not add the full amount
  • 1 tbsp buffalo sauce (Frank’s Red Hot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce)
  • Sprinkle of red pepper flakes
  • Pita crackers to serve with

Directions

  1. Drain chickpeas into a strainer and rinse with water.
  2. Add chickpeas and all other ingredients to a food processor and blend!

**The cuisinart food processor that I used isn’t too big, so in order to get the chickpeas to blend better I did wind up splitting it half and half so it wasn’t too full.

  1. Add to a bowl and sprinkle with red pepper flakes.

Serve with crackers or celery and enjoy!
