Swimming with the Pigs in Bahamas
October 1, 2018
This past summer I had the amazing opportunity to travel to the Bahamas with a group of friends – it was an incredible experience and one I will never forget! One of the most memorable parts of the trip was swimming with the pigs! I have seen pictures and heard about this for years, so I jumped at the chance!
The pigs live on the uninhabited island of Big Major Cay(aka Pig Island!). They are accustomed to tourists visiting and they were very eager to greet the boats of people on hopes that they brought food! We had brought a bucket of lettuce and veggies and someone in our group dropped the bucket when a bunch of pigs quickly approached trying to get food – there were too many to handle, so the food was dropped in the water!
The pigs were a little intimidating (and some very large!), but they were all super friendly! Some pigs were smaller and we were even able to pick them up! I got to hold a smaller one that was really calm and sweet!
There was a lot going on since the pigs were everywhere! Some were just being lazy and laying around or walking around the beach (maybe trying to get a tan!) Some were swimming and coming right up to the boat! And others wanted just one thing – food!
This was such a fun experience and something I would recommend to anyone that likes animals!
